In the US the “Low Carbon Fuel Standard” is a clean fuels program that requires petroleum fuel suppliers to reduce the average carbon intensity of their fuels by a certain percentage each year. This means that fuel supplier must blend higher volumes of alternative fuels in their stream, purchase alternative fuels with lower carbon intensity or incur steep compliance costs by purchasing LCFS credits.
